They lose their illusions.
IMO, the FR Q-deriders aren’t really trolls, per se. They aren’t working to shut us down or shut us up. They have a lifetime invested in rational thought and a settled outlook on the world. They demand linear logic, proven sources and straight exposition, regardless of whether or not such an approach is good tactics.
Again, IMO: these folks are a microcosmic example of how even the non-leftist populace is reacting & will react as the reality of the global situation plays out “in the real”.
I have seen this sort of reaction from close friends and closer family over 20 years of delving into various aspects of this s#!+ from different angles. It’s incomprehensible to otherwise good minds that operate within logical constructs.
In one instance, folks sidled up to me 10 years after the fact to whisper:”How did you know this then?” and “You were right.” In other instances, close family members looked at me in literal wide-eyed horror years after I showed them evidence and said:”Eff me, it’s all true.”
Forgive them. It will all play out in the real and everyone will be forced to accept it. Sometimes it’s difficult to be the advance recon. You know you have to go back and try to explain to those who haven’t seen what you have. They’ll catch up.
Some of them will catch up.
Some of them will likely draw deeper within their shell or lofty tower or bunker or ivory tower--trying vainly to convince themselves that the world has not dramatically changed regardless of the ocean around them proving otherwise.
Some may just wander off muttering and swear off talking or thinking about such topics ever again.
I think it is an overt manifestation of a deep-seated anger and depression that makes them lash out - but then they couch it in grandiose ideations and/or pseudo-educational lectures so as to fall back into a pattern of passive-aggressive defenses.
