It will probably hit an asteroid, alter its trajectory, which will in a few years crash into earth and destroy all life.

It was only a few years ago that I was watching a few of the old 50’s and 60’s scifi movies, where the rockets landed engines down, in some ridiculous fashion. “Yeah, right.” I would always say.

And here we are.

So it only takes 2 days to go to Mars now? It took the Apollo missions 3 days to go to the moon. SpaceX, with new improved rocketry, probably can go to another star system within a month or so....obvious sarcasm off. It is estimated to take 130 to 210 days for NASA to travel to Mars, yet Elon Musk passes Mars orbit in 48 hours. Something is wrong with this story.

That was magnificent. I have never been more proud of American free enterprise. I wept.

Coolest thing evah!

Launch your car into orbit then have those booster things land with retro rockets...it almost looks fake!

Musk is making NASA look stupid.

Am I the only one who is bothered by the fact that it was put into an earth crossing obit? If he had saved a little fuel and fired motors at aphelion, it would be in a higher orbit and never come near the earth.

If you aim at a Mars orbit and end up in the asteroid belt that’s a horrible, horrible failure.

Apparently this may be what they are aiming for with a future car launch...

That would make a nice future souvenir.

Me and my spaceship will pick it up 40 years from now if an alien UFO doesn’t get it first.

A Tesla Roadster? Sorry, but it needs to be a Chevy Malibu for the proper effect:

How is the Tesla situated to look as if its a hood ornament ? No visible connection to anything...no apparent glassy protective covering.

FYI.. Mars averages 140 million miles from earth....as close as 40+ mil and as far as 240 mil depending where both are in their orbits around the sun. it recently came the closest to us in 60,000 years !
