A little more than year ago President Donald Trump signed an executive order that spelled out his administration’s initial steps to crack down on unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. — chief among them a mandate to hire an additional 10,000 new agents for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

1. Tooth to Tail Ratio ... the amount of Support Personnel(Tail) needed to put one guy with a rifle(Tooth) to work. In the military it is ridiculously lopsided. I remember hearing that it was something like $1,000,000 a year for each Infantryman. Not sure if that's a legit number, but I do know that the number of support folks to deploy one Grunt was quite high. Whereas, the private sector was able to deploy contractors, all over the battle space, actually flipping the ratio. They could deploy numerous guys with rifles, with only a handful of support staff. Love him or hate him, Erik Prince had it figured out. I worked for him and he was able to do more, with less, as far as a guy with a gun. I'm not talking about MRAPs, etc. Although we did have armored vehicles like that.

Point being, the private sector will figure out a way to hire, train and deploy 10,000 ICE agents with far fewer people than the 6000, ICE is requesting. I'd be willing to bet they could do it with 1000 or less. But, since the 'gubmint' is paying the bills and there's no accountability, they'll say that they need 8000 and settle for 6500-7000 to pad the profit a bit. But, it definitely can be done with far less than 6000.

2. Take lessons from the use of security contractors all over the world and use Contractors. Get, retired cops or some guys with a few years experience to augment ICE and the Border Patrol. No need for a 20+ week training experience, just a quick 2 or 3 week class on 'job specific' stuff. They'll be under the oversight of the, Full Time ICE and BP personnel. They bring a world of expertise and experience, know the law as well as anyone, and when the border is more secure and the numbers aren't needed, you can send them home, instead of having to pay their salaries, benefits and pensions, for playing solitaire or checking facebook.

And for the, Vets, that need work, have them take their crazy GI Bill bennies, go to a local academy to get cerified and put them to work.

Allow some young Vets to take part and it could be a great recruiting tool for ICE and BP. And, with saved money, you could probably give the BP guys a nice raise and update some gear. As, they have some of the highest attrition in federal law enforcement.

Put a tax credit on each illegal alien turned in to ICE by an employer, once detained and deported. Turn in needs to include name, address, info used to apply or secure work, and best time of day and where to pickup. That should be worth $5,000. And give them $10,000 for credible information to charge, prosecute, and jail someone for hiring them.

I believe that $1M per infantryman figure when you add in the combat support and combat service support headcount.

With a plan like that, which is fantastic, the illegal immigration “issue” in the US of A, would be cleaned up, in saaaayy, 9-12 months.

Absolutely. My point being, that the “support” part of those numbers, if the private sector got involved and were forced to bean count, would be greatly reduced. Unlike Uncle Sam that has a debit card that never stops.
