It was not unusual in the 19th century to put a rope in a coffin attached to a beloved topside so that if someone was buried alive he could ring the bell.

Probably sensible at the time, but...cremation sorta negates the possibility of dialing. Not to mention the lack of cellphone service in the afterlife.What the hell plan would cover that?!
