It was during this period that U.S. Army policy required that African Americans serve in separate military units from white soldiers.

Hmmm... Wasn't there a rather large disagreement a few years prior to that, 1860-ish, that allegedly make the black man equal to the white man???

Right on the tip of my tongue... what was that???
