Excellent compassion by the officers.

The part that makes me angry is that it mentioned she went to some churches. That’s what they are for. Jesus himself reached out to the downtrodden, tax collectors, prostitutes, and this woman couldn’t get any help? What the hell is wrong with these so called “churches”? Perfect chance to witness to someone, and they turn it down.

My parish is on of the most passionate and generous in the city. The bad part? Those ingrate homeless trash the church entrance where they sleep. They show no respect for the same place which feeds them.

Gosh, even the Good Lord fashioned a whip and kicked the sh*t out of the merchants when they turned the church into an impromptu market..

Ease up on the gas pedal pal. Slow down.

Just because this lady says she went to churches and they turned her down, doesn't make it so.

There is no evidence that she contacted any churches.

Show me a church that would turn down helping this woman.

If one did, there a hundred more that will help her.

Well, it could be that she went to a church that doesn’t have staff on site 24/7.

Frankly, not every church is set up with a food pantry etc. Mine’s not, nor do we have staff there during the week. Although we have a lot going on during the week. There is no staff. It’s all volunteer.

I also know churches that have stopped the food pantry because they get taken full advantage of.

I was at a community center once when a meth head walked in wanting a blanket. There were no blankets there and we offered to get him a ride to a shelter. He refused several times so we showed him the door.

We once offered a bum a ride to a shelter and he refused saying he didn’t like their food.

Good on the police officer for helping them today, but all he did was help today.

Sounds like the mother needs an income that’s courtesy of the fruits of her labor, not our labor.

My parish started a food pantry years ago. It has grown so much over the years that it serves the entire city and surrounding communities.

Well if they were black churches, they will not help. They are all about making money for the reverend, his wife, and his cronies. They use the “church” as a tax shelter too.

Catholic churches only help illegals now.

There is more to this story. Churches generally are very good about giving food and clothing to people who present themselves as needy, even to non-congregants. However, if a pattern of dependency starts to develop, churches usually will attach counseling requirements and ask to see finances to get to the bottom of why the situation is not improving. Many people who abuse church generosity will not agree to such requirement so the churches must will tell such people they can’t be helped any longer. The bottom line is that this woman has likely received support and assistance from local churches in the past, but she has abused that help without trying to better her situation. The churches she references have probably reached the point where they are not helping her because she really doesn’t want to help herself.
