Unfortunately, most judges will find a way to block deportation by arguing that misdemeanor offenses “don’t count.” Similarly, even if chain migration is ended on paper, few judges will be willing to deport immediate family members of the “Dreamer” invaders, and will use extenuating circumstances arguments in each case. That’s one of the many reasons why offering these people a path to citizenship is poison.

Brilliant move!

He offers them more on DACA then they even wanted.

They still say NO!

Proof - they never wanted DACA to actually pass, they wanted a campaign issue.

Two things can happen - Democrats stop the bill and Trump humiliates them again for their hypocrisy, or it passes with bi-partisan support (in some watered down version) and Trump got another major piece of legislation done!

No one was going to deport the kids under any scenario.

Right answer is let them stay, and delay the citizenship thing for a very long time (20 years?) IN EXCHANGE for (1) wall; (2) end chain migration, and (3) end lottery.

If the wall isn’t built then Trump is just another liar wanting to be elected to office.

He has pretty much demonstrated that he will do what he says he will do already. That is why the DC swamp has their panties in a bunch. He is not their type of politician. They can't predict or control him.

Predictably, the Demorat reaction to the president’s too-generous offer are demands for firther concessions.

Strange, yesterday this was “fake news” here. Yesterday's fake news is today's official policy.

Anyway, I'm on board with the wall, ending chain migration, and the other strong pro America ideas from the official policy memo, that only yesterday was “fake news”.

Don’t kid yourself. The wall will cost a lot to build and more to maintain and guard. It is a true boondoggle. Google Earth the border or better yet go there. The drug trade can be mannaged with or without a wall.

Better get em out. Increase e-Verify sanctions so that fines are not just a cost of doing business for Bezos et al. and put the wall money into enforcing current immigration laws. No retention of DACA people or Dreamers on a blanket basis.

Challenge the anchor baby SCOTUS decisions and punish anchor baby conspirators.

Rejecting DACA and cutting off benefits to illegals would be preferable to the wall.

Since for years negotiations with Democrats by any Republican in a position of power also resembled nailing Jell-O to the wall, all the agreements were written in disappearing ink on paper that turned into a wisp of smoke, and all promises were subject to caveats and take-backs, this is just karma and the chickens coming home to roost.

May Charles Schumer continue to choke and sputter. The look suits him well.

The official WH proposal has not been released. That said, Trump is offering the Dems a huge carrot more than doubling the number of those eligible for DACA status. As always, the devil is in the details about exactly who would be covered by the additional legalization and the conditions they must meet.

The rest of the "pillars" are poison pills to the Dems who want amnesty without any of the other changes, i.e., full funding of the wall, a reduction of chain migration to include just the nuclear family, the elimination of the Visa lottery program, and perhaps, mandatory e-verify.

Trump may be offering the Dems a deal they cannot accept given their extreme leftist base. They will have to defend why they are turning down an extremely generous plan to address DACA recipients because of the other parts of the proposal. Are they against border security to prevent the flow of drugs, terrorists, and illegal aliens? Do they want to keep the current immigration system that allows immigrants to choose future immigrants rather than a merit based program? Do they want a program that allows people to come here thru a lottery program that debases the very idea of citizenship and the privilege of entering this country? Do they want to protect American workers from illegal aliens who take their jobs and depress wages?

I suspect Trump knows the Dems will not agree to the deal. The Reps now have a great campaign issue for the midterms. Poll after poll shows that the American public is on Trump's side when it comes to these issues. The Dems will be blamed for the lack of a DACA deal because they rejected parts of the deal that Americans overwhelmingly support. Bring it on.

The details thus far are fully unacceptable to me. I hope Schumer continues to reject the deal.

Have you ever negotiated before?

Do you understand the concept of a precedent? Giving nearly 2 million illegals a path to citizenship sets a precedent for future amnesties to illegals. The loud and clear message is that if you or your kids are here illegally and stay here long enough, eventually all will be forgiven.

Meanwhile, liberal judges will find ways to circumvent any restrictions on chain migration on paper. Do you really think that the "Dreamer's" immediate family members will be deported if they're made citizens?

In exchange for 25 billion dollars for the wall, an increase of 9 billion dollars and an end to chain migrationb only momb dad and siblings.

Democrats will never give those up.

> The reality is that if/when Democrats gain power, they’re going to do much worse. <

I’m sorry to be pessimistic here, but that’s very true. Even if a wall is built (and it had better be), the next Democrat president can simply order that an opening be made every 100 yards or so.

You know...for the children. And to fight racism and global warming.

In time we'll get a large chunk of the Hispanic vote... and the process of sorting ( which is what Trump's calling for)... of seeing who really wants to BE American - by their actions - will produce many from this group that will be Republican.

People who want a free ride or are criminal will 'sort' themselves back to Mexico or ElSalvadore or wherever their families came from.

I'm not being sarcastic - I see fairness in Trump's plan ... and it'll provide a BIG bargaining chip to use for the Wall, to end chain migration, and maybe stop anchor babies etc.

By the time time the deal is inked, we'll be with Trump. He's thinking this one through...

This is a bad idea. Anyway, if the wall gets built and chain migration is ended, it may be something doable. However, I do not trust democrats. They operate in bad faith - always.

Not just that but the proposal alone won’t gain him one vote and will lose many voters who voted for him because of his immigration stance......which was opposite from the amnesty he’s now proposing.
I walked away from Bush and the Republican Party because of his .....see you at the signing BS.
