As I said on a different site yesterday, there is NO constitutional provision or authority for a federal law enforcement agency - none. What we are witnessing is the exposure of a federal agency that should not exist, elements of which have been corrupt and unaccountable for decades.

Like any massive bureaucracy, the Bureau’s first obligation is to defend itself from critics. I worked closely with the FBI and DOJ before and after 9/11 and had direct knowledge of a massive number of Bureau F-ups that clearly allowed 9/11 to occur, almost none of which ever saw the light of day. Beginning with its first director, the Bureau has illegally collected and exploited information on its opponents inside and outside of government to protect itself. It has evolved into an organization obsessed with highly-complex, long-term undercover operations, many of which the Bureau has screwed up mightily; witness Ruby Ridge, Oklahoma City, Waco, the Phoenix memo, Pam Geller’s “Draw the Prophet” contest and many, many more. It and most of its members are adherents to an almost cultish and unbelievably distorted Bureau “culture” and “the Bureau way” and consider themselves infallible, above reproach and answering to no one; again, witness the Bureau’s refusal to answer congressional inquiries and “loss” of evidence.

I keep hearing about the purported innocence, anger and disappointment of the “rank and file” in the FBI, but who and where are they? One would think that at least one agent would have come forth by now. If something of this magnitude were occurring in the military - presumably a much more rigid, disciplined environment, does anyone believe that it would not have been exposed long ago?

To illustrate my point, I used to talk to Bob Mueller fairly often and I confess that I actually liked the guy on a personal level. During one of our conversations, relatively early in his tenure as FBI Director and out of frustration, Mueller told me, “I have two assistant directors in-charge and two field divisions that think they’re their own agencies and routinely ignore anything that comes from headquarters. I’ve replaced the senior leadership twice and every single person I’ve promoted is exactly like the person I replaced.” That’s a bit of a paraphrase, I’m sure, but it’s damned close.

Today’s FBI and its direct involvement in what can only be described as treason and sedition is the result. The American people need to know exactly what has been done and is still occurring, not just on the part of the FBI, but throughout our government. What has the government done to usurp the will of the people and what are we doing about it?

The unfortunate fact, as penned by de Maistre is, ‘we get the government we deserve.’

Thanks for this post on the FBI.

Personal experience, related first-hand on an honest site like Free Republic, is the Gold Standard of information regarding public issues.

Those of us who have ever been interviewed by the Press know it is a very distorting lens indeed, even when not blatantly dishonest.
