At a place called Isandlwana, a British force, consisting of 1,000 soldiers of the 24th Foot, (2nd Warwickshire Regiment), and 300 native troops was attacked by 20,0000 Zulu warriors. The Zulu force, armed mostly with spears and cowhide shields, overran the British positions and killed all but a handful of the defenders. It was the worst defeat in the history of the British Army by a native army. Later that afternoon, 5,000 Zulu warriors attacked a small British force at a river crossing called Rorkes Drift. Here, 130 soldiers of Co. B, 2nd Bat. 24th Foot, repelled numerous attacks by the Zulus.
“America” did not exist at the time of the Declaration of Independence. That would come later. It was 13 separate colonies in a loose alliance. The only natives in the county were the American Indians. Again if the British had won, we would have remained British citizens.
I doubt very much that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson or Paul Revere considered themselves British subjects after July 4, 1776.
Make no difference. They were not natives. The only natives in North America were those indigenous populations that lived here when the Europeans arrived. You can claim all you want but using the term “native” to mean the residents of the 13 colonies at the time of the Revolution is ludicrous
Of course they were natives. They were born here. And I’m a native American as well—I was born here (and I’m not an Indian).
the term is native born, per our constitution. You are free to call yourself anything that you want to.
“Native-born” is redundant.
Tell that to the founding fathers, they are the ones that used the terminology in the Constitution of the United States.
Tell that to the founding fathers. Am sure they will appreciate your thoughts on the subject.
Yes, indeed. America was stolen from its rightful owners, the indigenous natives, by British subjects.
If that’s your opinion, ok by me.
