crime is down in cities by a huge amount. Exclude Chicago & Baltimore and crimes in cities is nil.
Violent deaths in the burbs and rural Areas are surprisingly high, escodvially when one adds in traffic violence.
“Everyone in my middle class neighborhood had a veritable armory at home.”
It’s worth pointing out, though, that we weren’t shooting cops or each other, for the most part.
The police weren’t faced with gangs of sociopaths, completely lacking in conscience, empathy, remorse, guilt or shame, armed with fully automatic weapons.
The threat is worse because the scumbags are worse. In my day a “thug” was somebody who would beat you up, but not kill you.
If I were going to use my hunting rifle to engage someone armed with an *actual* assault rifle (AK, M4, fully auto), I’d want to engage at a distance of several hundred yards. After you blunder into an ambush in an urban canyon, it’s too late.
“crime is down in cities by a huge amount. Exclude Chicago & Baltimore and crimes in cities is nil.”
Not hardly. Overall crime is down. But where you encounter crime, it is better armed and more inclined to kill. And the cops don’t spend the bulk of their time in low crime areas.
The rough parts of cities are very rough. Most of that crime remains criminals killing criminals, but the bad guys now kill in groups and are very well armed. Not true back when a 38 special was standard military issue, and a typical civilian rifle was bolt-action.
This is news, not chat.
Did it get moved?
I posted it in chat. It’s a ‘dog bites man’ type of story, yes?
Don’t know where vooch lives but it sure can’t be SoCal.
Shootings were rare in Orange County. Murder was rare in Orange County. Now they aren’t and it goes along with the massive demographic change here.
The data shows otherwise
“The data shows otherwise”
Yeah, and the polls said Hillary would win.
You repeat that data because you don’t live in SoCal and apparently believe everything you read.

I was SO waiting for that. LOL
Before Section 8, we had Baltic Avenue.
Dude,
I spend 2-3 months year in SoCal. I know the present conditions rather well.
“I spend 2-3 months year in SoCal. “
Whereas I’ve lived in SoCal continuously for the last 51 years, all of it as an adult.
So what could I possibly know about how life in SoCal has changed compared to your 2-3 months a year expertise?
Tell me again how crime is down. I need the laugh.
