VIDEO

Watch what happens when a Giant Trevally versus an Tern in this amazing fish eats bird clip from Blue Planet II. Usually Giant trevally are solitary hunters but they have come in numbers to try their luck at catching potential prey. Fledgling Tern are wary to spend too much time on the water but even flying close to the surface puts them in grave danger.

This is from the American premiere of Blue Planet II yesterday. Absolutely STUNNING photography including these scenes of the Giant Trevally leaping out of the water to snatch the birds flying overhead.

MUST SEE TV!!!

I guess those fish are evening the odds from all those hawks swooping down and grabbing fish from the water. BTW, I actually saw that scene for real a few years ago. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a big splash in the lake out in back of our home. When I turned my head I saw that it was a hawk and at that moment it exited the water with a big fish in its claws.

Yes, I've seen that scene before on nature shows but to see it in real life was quite thrilling.

Is Trevally a good table fish?

I read that the parts of the Giant Trevally can be poisonous. They are in the Jack family.

I have my own underwater VIDEO of a large manatee swimming by but nowhere near the great quality of Blue Ocean II. BTW, that was my FIRST underwater video ever with my GoPro camera. I had it on my headstrap, clicked the button, and within seconds the manatee appeared. Beginner's Luck!!!

For the poor tern, that is definitely a WTF moment.

Northern pike & muskellunge snatch blackbirds right off of cattails.

Ducklings are often eaten by largemouth bass and jack fish (chain pickerel) in the southeast. I have witnessed a jack take a grackle (black bird) as the bird walked along a floating log. Came half way out of the water and grabbed the bird off the log.

I used to fish for big Trevally from the beach at night in Kailua Oahu when I was a kid. biggest one I caught was 62 pounds. Good eating (ono) In Hawaii they are called Ulua. and yes they are in the Jack-Pompano family. We used squid as bait.

A least tern chick. While always vulnerable on land, the pendulum may have swung in their favor, in this instance. Leave my chickies alone!
