When will my Catholic friends open their eyes to even the most basic, clearly, historically validated truth that the concept of a single man as the “head” of the universal church wasn’t even thought of until the 6th century.?

In essence, it was the 'moon shot' of the late Roman era. Recognizing the overhead required to maintain a secular, man-power base military empire was a losing proposition, the patricians realized they could pivot to create a virtual command & control system based on ecclesiastical tithing.
So, instead of enforcing public law and collecting taxes, they created a substitute empire that was wholly original in both thinking and approach. Better yet, the punishment mechanism for heresy was sufficiently gruesome (with no recourse for appeal) to ensure compliance.
The subsequent wealth that poured into the church of Rome dwarfed what the empire was ever able to accomplish. Like I said, perfect genius.
