Hwy 280 is faster than Hwy 101 for reaching San Jose and Santa Clara from SF. Hwy 280 is max 70mph, while Hwy 101 I believe is 50mph. Plus there is a bottleneck on Hwy 101 by SFO airport. So switching the buses from 280 to 101 increased the time for the commute. Both freeways are jammed in the morning commute. It's about 45 miles between borders of SF and San Jose give or take where you're headed, so you're probably on target. People here are used to commuting in heavy traffic for up to 100 miles to reach their jobs. Not me; I always tried to live close to my job and avoid the traffic jams.
