A baby humpback whale, a flame-haired Norwegian and the starry sky above a desert are among winning photos in a prestigious international contest.
Judges picked out 11 stunning images from among 30,000 entrants submitted for the awards, run by Swedish camera manufacturers Hasselblad.
Winners, from nine different countries around the world, included a picture of a bride in a flowing wedding dress embracing her new husband and an elderly couple holding hands as they walk past a housing block.

PING
I like the desert starry night pic the best.
I love that one, too, but there’s something about that tool on the ground that’s pulling me.
“flame-haired Norwegian “
Racist.
The photo of the old couple looks like a painting!
And I love the tree in the desert. Wow.
His coat is the color of the balconies on the building behind. You couldn’t have invented better color combinations.
I’ve never met a Norwegian, so have no idea if that is typical or unusual. But, clearly, the liberals want to make sure that this young person never immigrates here to contaminate our gene stock with ginger. Actually would have guessed that was a young boy. I wonder why.
Yup
Now I have a goal for 2018/2019....win this photography contest next year
Good luck!
:)
As an amateur, I have taken some pretty good photos....including solar eclipse photos, nature and landscape pics...and some photos of lovely ladies.
It will take a lot of effort and may clicks to even be considered for this award.
I have a fantastic photo of the veteran’s cemetery in San Diego....Fort Rosecrans.
I need to add it to my instagram page.
One of my next photo projects is in a cemetery.
Cool!
[I have thousands of cemetery pics...visible light, infrared, UV, full spectrum]
:D
I have some of the headstones with the San Dirgo bay wrapped around in the background and the sunrise coming up over the hills to the East in the extreme background.
Was only using a cell phone camera back then. Upgraded the hobby with some nice nikon gear since then
Sounds awesome.
I have a huge collection of normal cameras, plus some dedicated IR and full spectrum.
From pricey to old digital Olympuses from the 90s, which take incredible false color IR, thanks to the cut filter being really weak.
I like odd things.
If you see that a really big storm is going to hit the SF area you should fly out and go to Ocean Beach after. The area around golden gate park was a large area of cemeteries back in the 1800s and they exhumed all the bodies for reinterrment to make room and dumped the headstones on the coast for erosion control where they were sanded over. On low tide after big storm it exposes lots of ~1860s to 1900 headstones.
Since the beach there is FED, you cant detect, but there has been talk of relegating that stretch of beach back to the city so people can off leash their dogs there. If that happens there will be several dozen of us dirt fishers down there because it is essentially virgin ground and it is loaded with shiny stuff :-)
