PUTIN EQUATES COMMUNISM TO CHRISTIANITY
https://www.catholicleague.org ^ | 01/16/17 | Bill Donohue

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on recent remarks made by Russian president Vladimir Putin:

Russian president Vladimir Putin is making some waves with his recent statement equating communism to Christianity. He said that “communist ideology is very similar to Christianity,” crediting Soviet communism for preaching “freedom, brotherhood, equality.” Though he admitted that religious persecution took place under Soviet rule, he nonetheless lauded it for its ideological commitment to these ideals.

Pope Francis himself said in 2016 that it has been noted many times that “it is the communists who think like Christians.” By that he meant the communists profess a commitment to the poor.

So is Putin saying the same thing as the pope? Not at all.

The pope was saying that although the communists have adopted the rhetoric of Christianity (with regards to the needy), they have done so dishonestly: He said the “communists have stolen our flag,” meaning they have ripped off our legacy to serve their own interests. In fact, he pointedly said in 2013 that “The Marxist ideology is wrong.”

Putin believes that the state should serve the poor. That is not the Christian way: people must serve the poor, albeit there is a role for the state. “The family constitutes the best ‘social capital,'” Pope Francis said a few years ago in his trip to Ecuador. “It cannot be replaced by other institutions.” In doing so, he was enunciating the Catholic principle of subsidiarity, meaning that those closest to the problem are best suited to fix it. That is an anathema in Soviet discourse, something shared by Putin.

If Putin were right, then the most communist nation in the world would also be the greatest champion of the poor...

Russia isn’t a threat to the West no matter how hard the resident neo-liberals try to make it so.

America’s greatest enemy isn’t external, its internal.

I moved back from Russia just before Nov 2016. Trump is the best thing to happen to the Russian people.

(And to the Iranian people, and pretty much every country. What else is there to say.) I’d expand, with what I mean regarding Russian specifically - but that’s a story for another day.

Putin has a few more years before his system collapses and his geopolitical gambles unravel. (Other than Crimea. That’ll stay in Russia’s corner.)

But expect to hear more stirrings and previews of that reality soon enough. March will be interesting. (Presidential “elections” in Russia.) World Cup this summer...

The MSM is too busy covering fake Trump-collusion to give people a real perspective on Russia. They actually give Putin what he wants which is way more credit than he deserves. But even he can’t afford to play the same ole Cold War game anymore. His economy is tanking and there is less pie to go around for his crony oligarchs.

Hmmm. Poland has signed similar pact with Hitler and invaded Czech with the Germans but didn’t get a fraction of blame Russia did. What’s wrong with that? Maybe you should either condemn Poland or tone down on Russia?

The Poles signed a peace treaty with Germany in 1934, years before WWII. But Poland had a mutual defense treaty with France. An German attack on France would be equivalent to a German attack on Poland. So this treaty did nothing for Germany in terms of keeping its Western border calm and giving it the opportunity to invade France and the Low Countries.

As to the partition of Czechoslovakia, the Poles moved in because Edvard Benes was too cowardly and incompetent to fight - they understood that Germany would take all of Czechoslovakia (including the sliver essential to Polish defenses that they ended up annexing), if they merely stood by. But in any case, their armed truce with Germany in no respect detracted from their alliance with France. That is why Germany needed Poland erased off the map. That was achieved through the Nazi-Soviet alliance. If the Soviets had played Poland's assigned role and attacked Germany as it was invading France, much would have been forgiven. As it stood, Russia enabled the Nazis and only fought when the Nazis invaded them. And that is why Russian infamy is well-deserved.

Now remove Benes from your post then replace Czech with Poland and Poland with USSR.

What stopped France from signing a defence treaty with USSR?
USSR was at war by proxy with Germany in Spain.

“I don’t want to make Russia an enemy again, so have no interest in hating the USSR back into existence.”

If there’s anyone bringing back the demon ghosts of the USSR, it’s self-loathing Americans.

Sure you don’t hate Russia, you just allowed Obama/Bush/Clinton whoever or whatever - to wimp you out into hating America. And now Trump is president, and you don’t even have the energy to believe in what he’s accomplishing either.

Figures.

I used to be on FreeRepublic under a different username. Then took a few years hiatus while abroad (including in the former USSR no less) and I come back to a bunch of Putinbots and America-haters.

>Communism is a heresy of Christianity.

Nope. Communism is a heresy of Judaism, which is why it was so popular with jews and was created Karl Marx who was Jewish. Progressivism is a heresy of Christianity which is why it’s so popular with liberal Christians.

>Well, he right in the sense Communism basically stole everything from Christianity. Its utopian vision is the heaven from Christianity and it replaces God with a man they equate to the savior.

>It’s essentially Christianity without Christ.

It’s nothing of the sort. Socialism and Communism are based on envy of what others have while Christianity is based on loving your neighbor and not coveting what you don’t have.

What’s the source for the Putin quote? There are no links back to it and it’s not popping up from google.

Yep. Either the Leftists/Marxists/Progressives are purged or the west will be overrun by 3ed worlders and Muslims.

At least you didn’t call me a commie like you did Ichabod1, so I guess there’s that. There’s enough hatred for legitimate reasons without conjuring it up out of nothing. But you go, Rosie, if it makes you feel better.
