Residents and visitors in the Hawaiian Islands Saturday received a missile warning alert in error, but not before creating a panic on social media.
The alert read in all capital letters: “Ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill.”
The alert was sent sometime after 8 a.m. local time, and many people took to Twitter to share screenshots of their phones.
A second emergency alert went out about 40 minutes later clarifying that the first alert was a false alarm, CNN associate producer Amanda Golden tweeted. “Repeat. False Alarm” the second alert read.
The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency eventually tweeted “NO missile threat to Hawaii.”

I remember, some years ago, reading about a false alarm that went out on the “emergency broadcast system”. Somebody inserted the “real thing” tape instead of the “this is only a drill” tape. Most of the TV and radio stations apparently ignored it.
I’d be curious about how many Hawaiians actually sought shelter.
I can imagine that the whole island votes DemonRATic next election, if it hasn't already !
As our society becomes more commonly dependent on electronics, and fail-safe protections are not implemented,
I think there will be more instances of false alarms caused by hackers and folks intentionally creating chaos.
At least now the Hawaiians know where their bomb shelters are no longer located, since like those in my community,
they have been appropriated by government bureaucracy for use as paper and forms storage facilities.
Trump admin response was this was purely a state administered process. Leaving for me to point out Hawaii is a one party Rat run “paradise” worthy of its favorite son.
There is a video on YouTube which contains a recording of that incident. I’ve listened to it several times and I believe it happened in either January or February of 1971. I was only a couple of months old at the time it happened, but I bet the people who heard that alert were in hysterics.
