False alarm. My cell woke me up with the alert: A real Holy Sh*t moment.. Then, nothing on the news or retract for a full half hour.. Turns out it was good old fashioned Hawaii government ineptitude.. Whew!

Your instincts were right - turn on the TV...

If it had been a real attack the President would have appeared on designated TV channels within the first ten minutes.

FOX has hysterical fools on...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_Alert_System

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national warning system in the United States put into place on January 1, 1997 (approved by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in November 1994),[1] when it replaced the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS), which in turn replaced the CONELRAD System. The official EAS is designed to enable the President of the United States to speak to the United States within 10 minutes.

EAS messages are transmitted via AM, FM, broadcast television, cable television and Land Mobile Radio Service, as well as VHF, UHF, and FiOS (wireline video providers). Digital television, satellite television, and digital cable providers, along with Sirius XM satellite radio, IBOC, DAB, smart phones and digital radio broadcasters, have been required to participate in the EAS since December 31, 2006.[4] DirecTV, Dish Network, and all other DBS providers have been required to participate since May 31, 2007.
