I had a similar experience about 27 years ago. Went to the interview, interviewed very well but was told that because of EEOC they had to give preference to a woman and minority who also was considered.

Went home figured that that was that.

Month later was called and told the job had opened up again. So, I got the job I said.

NO, I had to interview again.

Told them I wasn't going to be their token white guy so there was a place they could stick their job.

Move on.

My ex went through that in the 80s with the Highway Patrol. Aced the written and physical tests but wound up with fewer points than fat black women. The examiner pretty much shrugged ... his hands were tied.
