BATTLE GROUND, Wash. —Tonya Harding’s name isn’t Tonya Harding anymore. “My name is Tonya Price,” she said, when she saw me taking notes. In 2010, she had just returned home to Washington from Los Angeles,(snip) She was having drinks with a friend when she spotted one Joe Price, a heating and air-conditioning worker, on the karaoke stage. He was singing “Great Balls of Fire.”
“I’m going, damn, he’s got beautiful eyes,” she said. “I mean the eyes are the center to your soul, O.K.? You might have a nice butt, but I want to see the eyes.” Within weeks she proposed to him. (snip)
“I, TONYA,” which is based on hours of interviews with Ms. Harding and her ex-husband, honors its feisty subject by showing not just the abuse she endured, but how she fought back.
For the record, Ms. Harding loved the movie. “Magnificent,” was her word, especially after she’d seen it a few times. You have to remember, that was her life. That those beatings were very specifically hers, not composite beatings. And that they weren’t even shown in full: “People don’t understand that what you guys see in the movie is nothing,” she said. “That was the smallest little bits and pieces. I mean, my face was bruised. My face was put through a mirror, not just broken onto it. Through it. I was shot. That was true.” (snip) She said her mother threw a knife at her. (Her mother has also denied allegations made by Ms. Harding.) But “that’s all true,” she said.(snip)
Which is not to say that the movie is totally accurate. As I said, there are some things she would like to clear up. Such as:

Yeah, her, too. What a wacky bunch.
Just watched the US Olympic trials(the wife likes figure skating) and they hosed the best male skater. He was a little too “old” to be in the Olympics, had not been one of the favorites coming in, but out skated everybody. He’s not going to Korea, but a guy who fell three times and was one of the favorites is. It’s liking watching the Westminster Dog Show. The first night they tell you whose going to win and they almost always do.
I kept yelling, “Paula, go for the knees!”
The food guy or gal doesn’t always win.
Food=good and not just for the purposes of this post.
LOL, my man. “Not guilty” does not mean innocent.
OJ killed 2 people, regardless of what a criminal jury said(not guilty) or what a civil court said (liable).
Some people just identify with white trash doing trashy things.
Tonya was a great skater. One of the all time greats.
But as a person she was not so good.
Pressure, fame (or the desire for it) and ego make people do a lot of stupid things.
Same thing happened in school.

I’ve seen the movie and it’s my best film of the year. Regardless of how you feel about her, it is funny, profane, and deals with the abuse.
It is entertaining and laugh out loud funny.
We all want the redemption story. If she’s happily married and raises her son right, then that’s all we can ask of someone. The film itself is filled with unreliable narrators and the writer leaves it up to the audience to fill in the blanks.
Would never have been sympathetic towards her but the film does raise her side of the story.
Plus looking at Margot Robbie for a couple of hours is a win/win in my book.
I know. How dare a woman be unattractive, right?
