My wife remembered years ago when we had trouble with not being able to connect to internet network , that on occasion we were advised to do a - i guess what would be called a hard boot , meaning we would unplug the PC , let it sit for a while , plug it in again , and all would be OK . She suggested we try that . I said , what the heck nothing to lose . It worked . We’re re-connected to the net and so far no BSOD . Don’t have a clue why this would work but it did .

It emptied your onboard RAM, ( Random Access Memory. ) RAM does not necessarily always empty with a simple restart but unplugging does remove power from RAM so that it discharges totally.
Most of those KB40568** updates are dated January 3rd, so you might have installed one before your January 7th restore point.
