Yeah, I was wondering if my method might not work on other browsers.

Using those codes, < and > would eliminate the necessity of leaving a space so that the code isn't executable and then having to instruct someone to eliminate it.

test using a copy and paste of your non-executable code...

I'm a little confused...
How did you prevent the < and > codes in your first paragraph from showing as < and > ?
I tried to mimic it in my 2nd paragraph but they showed up as < and > whereas yours didn't.
The only difference I can see is the font.

Typing &lt; and &gt; produces < and > respectively, while preventing it from turning into HTML machine code.
Typing &amp;lt; and &amp;gt; makes &lt; and &gt; appear in the text.
&amp; is the code for the ampersand character.
Have a look at the page source code and have some fun with it.
