Hundreds of robot realtors are helping Bay Area renters find new homes

Mark Austin — Posted on January 6, 2018

Some potential renters in California meet an unusual assistant when they show up for a tour of their new dream home — a robot realtor named “Zenny” that gives a tour of the house, wirelessly connected to high-tech property management startup Zenplace.

The Mercury News recently followed one prospective buyer as he checked out a place in Santa Clara. “I wasn’t expecting a robot,” chuckled Gilbert Serrano as he arrived at the two-bedroom rental house. The three-foot-tall robot had an iPad mounted at the top, connected to real estate agent Rabia Levy in her Sunnyvale office. “I’m a person too!” she responded.

Is the cost savings passed onto consumers or is this just the new normal?

Heck, outsource her desk job to India if she can’t be bothered to show up in person with clients.

This concept of a robot realtor is similar to a scene in the 1987 movie “Robocop”.

Now if we could combine the Realtor Bot with a Sex Bot, we could have a whole new genre of porn.

I’m thinking that homes are very vulnerable to theft without someone to watch over the potential buyers.

Exactly. The purpose of actual “face time” is to meet potential clients and quickly develop a working relationship with them. If the buyer/renter doesn’t like the house they called about (and probably won’t)...maybe the agent can sell or lease a different house down the street or across the neighborhood.

“Somebody is going to steal the robot.”

That’s another reason to have live agents show properties...security. Wait’ll stuff starts disappearing from the homes.

I think the sex robots being marketed NOW are way beyond porn. I saw this link on an earlier FREEREPUBLIC topic.

If they don't limit showings to vetted and verified buyers/tenants that is a possibility.
