Is Your Child Lying to You? That’s Good
New York Times ^ | JAN. 5, 2018 | ALEX STONE

Why do some children start lying at an earlier age than others? What separates them from their more honest peers? The short answer is that they are smarter.

You can speed up the process. Training children in executive functioning and theory of mind using a variety interactive games and role-playing exercises can turn truth-tellers into liars within weeks, Professor Lee has found. And teaching kids to lie improves their scores on tests of executive functioning and theory of mind. Lying, in other words, is good for your brain.

The short answer is that they are smarter.

I thought the short answer is that their parents didn't teach them to value telling the truth.

Of course, the libs want this to be true because they are congenital liars, which just shows how much smarter they are than everyone else.

"This is a joke,right?"

No, it's a New York Slimes discourse on how to help your child grow up to be a Democrat.

How can we get our children to be honest? In general, carrots work better than sticks. Harsh punishments like spanking do little to deter lying, . . . . . In one study, Professor Lee and the developmental psychologist Victoria Talwar compared the truth-telling behaviors of West African preschoolers from two schools, one that employed highly punitive measures such as corporal punishment to discipline students and another that favored more tempered methods like verbal reprimands and trips to the principal’s office. Students at the harsher school were not only more likely to lie but also far better at it.

In other words, under the logic of this article, spanking your children makes them smarter.

Only the left would praise liars. I would rather have a child with an average gpa and honest than a smart liar. These people are so blind to their own evil. This is part of their calling good evil and evil good. God have mercy on this country.

Sometimes lying is actually very good if it saves another’s feelings too sensitive or make them feel good for example oh that dress looks great on you when I supposed to say I know it’s fucking ugly (the truth )

That’s what I always say the truth hurts. If you’re doing wrong

Having fun despite nattering nabobs of negativism telling you not to it’s perfectly all right

Every time I think I could not have more dislike and contempt for the New York Times, they come out with something like this.

I once gave a semi-satirical speech about the need to learn how to be good liar.

My point was that by studying how to lie and practicing it, you can greatly improve your ability to detect it.

I must be dumb as a post. Can’t lie if my life depended on it. Oh well at least my customer for the last 25 years appreciates it.

How noteworthy is it that NYT bypassed this altogether:
Children who don’t peek at the toy in the first place are actually the smartest of all, but they are a rarity.

So, it’s not those who lie who are smart; it’s those who are honest enough not to cheat. The ones falsely identified as smart by the NYT are those who cheat, but then aren’t so dumb as to not recognize that they are contradicting their behavior.

“Oh well at least my customer for the last 25 years appreciates it.”

If you’d mastered lying, you might have had more than one customer.

Sorry. Couldn’t resist capitalizing on your obvious typo.

Operating values for the NYT.

Once vetted, good material for a Trump Tweet.

This thread reminds me of one of my favorite Mark Twain quotations:

“Always tell the truth, and you won’t have to remember anything.”

The quote came up during the Clinton presidency when people marvelled about how good a memory Bill had.
