The globe is set to start drying out dramatically if global warming isn't stopped.
That's the message from a new environmental study published by the journal Nature Climate Change .
Over 25% of Earth will start experiencing the effects of "aridificaiton" by the year 2050 if humans don't meet the changes proposed by the Paris climate agreement .
The study claims that if the Earth's average temperature goes up by two degrees Celsius over the next 32 years, the planet will start to become a desert.
“Our research predicts that aridification would emerge over about 20-30 percent of the world’s land surface by the time the global mean temperature change reaches 2ºC," said Manoj Joshi, the lead researcher of the study.
"But two-thirds of the affected regions could avoid significant aridification if warming is limited to 1.5ºC (34.7 degrees Fahrenheit)."
The study goes on to point out that reducing greenhouse gas emissions will keep global warming under the 2 degree threshold and reduce the likelihood of aridification.

I’m an Engineer and worked for coal plants when the industry was much larger.
The acidity is actually caused by sulfur in the coal eventually creating sulfuric acid.
Acid is not a problem anymore because they use low-sulfur coal or SOx compounds are filtered. There is monitoring of the flue gas. Coal fly ash is also filtered nearly 100%.
We no longer breathe filthy coal dust or have acid rain because of environmental laws. When I left the industry, the stacks were crystal clear. I dont know about CO2 causing global warming but I definitely agreed with cleaning the air.
They are comical until the government gives them all our hard earned tax dollars, then the joke is on us.

Exactly. Since all of the oceans are dead and there is massive global starvation already I’m not concerned. No icecaps, either. They’ve been gone for a long time. But somehow before that we all froze to death. It all makes sense if you smoke enough medical marijuana!

Ha! Wouldn’t do squat about the climate - I mean it would be another route (other than Mexico) that illegals could enter the country. Like the first people that populated the Americas are theorized to have done 15,000 years ago.
I’m guessing that would be the least of our problems. Another glacial maximum would greatly reduce crop production, water would become scarce, etc. I imagine that if (when?) it happens it will lead to major worldwide wars to secure the last little bit of decent crop land.
Hmm - maybe it’s time to buy a little parcel in the Amazon?
Earth will become a DESERT by 2050 IFglobal warming ever gets started.
It hasn't started so far --- and mankind's contribution to CO2 is -- by several orders of magnitude -- too minuscule to ever start it.
