The globe is set to start drying out dramatically if global warming isn't stopped.
That's the message from a new environmental study published by the journal Nature Climate Change .
Over 25% of Earth will start experiencing the effects of "aridificaiton" by the year 2050 if humans don't meet the changes proposed by the Paris climate agreement .
The study claims that if the Earth's average temperature goes up by two degrees Celsius over the next 32 years, the planet will start to become a desert.
Our research predicts that aridification would emerge over about 20-30 percent of the worlds land surface by the time the global mean temperature change reaches 2ºC," said Manoj Joshi, the lead researcher of the study.
"But two-thirds of the affected regions could avoid significant aridification if warming is limited to 1.5ºC (34.7 degrees Fahrenheit)."
The study goes on to point out that reducing greenhouse gas emissions will keep global warming under the 2 degree threshold and reduce the likelihood of aridification.

I’m still waiting for Y2K to destroy my computer.
Let’s not forget that technically Antarctica is a desert. So they may be right after all.
LOL! Very true.
And yet the deserts are greening due to increased CO2.
That’s if we don’t cap CO2... which feeds the trees and other green growth, which returns oxygen to the air.
Got it.
These wild-eyed “predictions” should’ve been laughed off years ago.
The ozone hole was eventually determined to be a perfectly natural feature of the poles and acid rain was eventually debunked as research showed that PH in various bodies of water were impacted more by natural elements such as limestone than by airborne pollutants.
They also didn’t note that coal ash, the big thing they blamed for acid rain, is actually alkaline and not acidic.
LOL. Remember in Al Gore’s book “Earth in the Balance” (90’s) it firmly stated that much of Florida would be under water by now.
Burning fossil fuel will block out the suns rays, cooling the planet.
Will that work?
It must be true, after all the North Pole and Antarctica melted right on schedule.
Manhattan and Vanuatu already went under water in 2010 didn't they?
As a high school student in the 70’s I well recall how they predicted we would all be froze to death by now due to the global freezing that was taking over. Sucks to be wrong all the time, eh?
A warmer earth is a wetter earth.
Time keep a list of all the horrors these so-called scientists say will happen if we don’t pony up billions to stop a less than one degree change in global temperature....
It would be funny.
Kind of like the long list of fake hate crimes committed by losers and blamed on traditional Americans is ‘funny’ in a creepy kind of way:

And, even worse. No more chocolate bushes by 2025 if we don’t straighten up and fly right. Oh, and mind our P’s and Q’s.
“If”
It’s official. The globo-warm-o-nauts have predicted every possible form of disaster.
During Earth’s hottest periods deep ocean water temperatures were estimated to be ~12 degrees Centigrade (53.6 degrees F). Currently they are consistently 0-3 degrees C (32-37.4 F; without freezing because of the salinity). Why didn’t Earth develop into one big desert going forward from those periods of high temperature?
