The chant boomed out early in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and then again late, and a third time even later for good measure. And although its enough to trigger a collective gag reflex in 39 states plus several U.S. territories, its a fact-based champions chant. S-E-C! S-E-C! the Alabama fans thundered, when the final score of the Rose Bowl was announced and league brethren Georgia had advanced to the College Football Playoff title game.

So, do you like the bye week for the “League that Must Not be Named”?
If you are into chasing rabbits, wonderful. You totally missed my point, but then again, you think it all means something.
Sure I do, teams that win more games during the regular season should be rewarded for it.
There are some seriously butthurt Freepers over this
It really brings out the anti south bigots here
The irony of that. Considering these are pretty much black teams
Football wins are trends. UCF trends toward winning and are undefeated. Given no chance to prove that in a silly 4 team playoff, they proved it the only way open to them.
They defeated Auburn which defeated the 2 teams remaining in the “playoffs”.
Auburn coach commented on UCF’s speed.
They remain undefeated.
If they are such a good school, why did their coach jump ship after only two years in the program for a better gig?
I can’t remember when an undefeated national championship coach moved on to another college program the day after his win.
The current system doesn’t reward what he did at CFU. You know that.
Nebraska knows it, too.
Which has nothing to do with CFU’s undefeated record.
“Lot of whining going on in here...”
AND sour grapes ...
Yes, but it is too bad that UCF did not reschedule their game with GA Tech...
“OU should have won the game both in regulation and in OT. The coach became too conservative late in the game and tried not to lose rather than play to win. And the squib kick before halftime was a bonehead call.
“
shouda, wouda, couda ...
sounds to me like OU lost BECAUSE the coach became too conservative, tried not to lose instead of playing to win, and making boneheaded calls like squib kicks ...
And why doesn’t the current system reward him?
The answer to that question is the same answer to why they should not be considered #1 despite being undefeated.
It was due to hurricane. All America knows that.
*rolls eyes*
I know the reason it was cancelled; I am saying it was too bad it wasn’t rescheduled, as it would have been a good regular-season test for UCF.
No it isn’t. Nebraska is a rich program and they are not. Nebraska is in a rich conference. They are not.
The UCF team record this season has nothing to with anything other than that the team won every game.
They are undefeated.
They beat Auburn.
Auburn beat Alabama.
Auburn beat Georgia.
I think any fair-minded person would consider that worthy of consideration.
A 4 team playoff was insufficient to handle the national possibilities.
In the future it would argue for changing the format.
I agree that a 4-team playoff is insufficient. But it is better than the BCS, or the AP/UPI/Coaches’ poll champions of old.
But one needs to discuss this as they way things are, rather than the way one would like them to be. An undefeated team in a lesser conference without a big win against a Power-5 team is not going to rank well against 1- (or even 2- loss) Power-5 teams. That is why the GA Tech cancellation hurt UCF.
Who still cares about Boise State?
But the Auburn game corrects that deficiency.
Both Miami and UCF had to reschedule with Georgia tech. Miami got that available date. Tech’s other opening was already a scheduled game for ucf.
But, none of this changes the fact that ucf beat the team that beat both of the remaining teams in the playoffs.
UCF will break the top 10 next week once the final rankings are done. But none of the rankings will have them #1. They may get some protest votes for #1, and maybe even make it into the top 5.
They’ll be in the Top 4.
Certainly not their former coach, who fled across the border to Washington to have a chance to participate in the playoffs.
