I have since learned that I’m not the very cheapest.
A few years back, I ask a group to print out their natural gas usage from Nicor.
One stood out like a neon sign!!!
And he lives in a very nice and large old “Painted Lady”.
His winter gas bills were only slightly above my summer bills!!
The house is completely restored with max insulation.
He is a commodity trader with his computer room that adds lots of heat, adjacent to the bedroom/bath.
The rest of the house gets just enough heat so the pipes do not freeze.
He also has a house in Florida, I ask if he pumped his suitcase with heat for the trip north?
Minus ten degrees F. here this AM, you might have noticed.
My burn rate is 37,400 BTU steady and has been all night.
That works out $7.20 for 24 hours on the bill, tax included.
Oh,my!
First winter in my New Brunswick mini-home.
Quite the cold snap happening. Tonight -19C feeling like -27C
Lost water to the kitchen a few days ago. Cold and then hot went.
Hoping the poly-hose piping survives.
Got to crawl under the house and do an inspection.
Still have hot and cold water in the bathroom. It’s next to computer room.
Moved here end of March, this first year is like a shakedown cruise.
Learn the problems, adjust and correct for them in year 2.
Bit of a shock, last power bill went from 90/mth to 190/mth.
