Why anybody would be out there in that weather, penned up like cattle in a slaughterhouse, escapes me.
Agree it’s boring as ‘H’, so I’m in the den on the ‘puter instead of watching people freeze, and be stupid.
I knew those who did and you HAD to stay within there for up to eight hours.
Because it's been institutionalized as "FUN". And then you can tell your co-workers Tuesday that you were there. People really looked like they were having fun, despite the extreme cold, in the 3 minutes I spent watching the ball drop live. I did a big batch of laundry, warmed up some dinner, and will now watch Netflix. In a nice cozy warm home. Mmmm.
It’s a bucket list item for many. I checked the box about 20 years ago. Have no desire to do it again. But it was fun to do it once, I must admit. We hit a couple bars during the afternoon and then got in place. Hours and hours. This was before smartphones so we didn’t have those to entertain us. But it was before 9/11 so we weren’t penned in like cattle.
