I've always wanted to see it frozen at night. That would be fun!

The main falls don’t look frozen over like that one time that is documented in the museum there.

I don’t know how long ago but they upgraded the lighting system so it is more vivid than years ago.

Even in the summer months, it’s a spectacular sight.

Don’t tell the Canadian Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (yes, that’s what it’s called).

The Great Lakes don’t normally freeze over completely and neither do the falls. For that to happen you would need sustained arctic conditions and generally temps go up and down enough to prevent that.

That’s what I was thinking. In 1911 it completely froze over, not the case now.

I live too far away...to make it this year, especially in this weather.
Another fun freezing weather activity.

Can you imagine the UPSTREAM flooding that could happen should those cold temperatures reaming for an extended period? The “moving water” at the falls should be harder to freeze than the slower moving water upstream. Any information on that?

I believe Lake Superior froze completely over a few years ago.

I’ve been to the Canadian side once when I was 16, and stood in front of Fredrick Church’s Painting of Niagara at The Corcoran Gallery of Art twice since. I’d go back to the Corcoran again to see the painting. Once you have seen and felt the real falls, just standing in front of the painting brings everything back, except a trip across the border.
