In my (Catholic) archdiocese, the chancery takes 20% right off the top of every collection. Collection to fix the A/C in the church? 20% off the top. My cardinal is one of the most openly leftist in the country and has flown to the southern border for photo-ops with Mexicans and border-jumpers on numerous occasions. So I know if I put money in the basket (which I don't anymore, but I might again this year because I feel guilty not supporting my parish), I'm buying a plane ticket to Arizona for a photo-op with illegals.
Of course you know the answer to that rhetorical question!
Some, including one of my daughters, ignore that, only because of their connection to a particular local church. The rest of her neighborhood church life has no other "liberal" connections, such as gay marriage or scriptural conflicts.
In conservative Grand Rapids, one has to make distinctions, hard choices! Just my very narrow observations, from once a month visits to her church.
