Almond eyes and high cheek bones? Sounds kind of Asian/Amerindian to me. Even in modern times 21 miles is not all that far to boat, and even after the land bridge began to be covered, for a time the distance was less than 21 miles. Personal note: my husband was 1/16th Cree Indian, although he was a blue-eyed redhead. I have mongol tartar from my east Prussian/German ancestry. One of my sons has almond eyes and high cheekbones. Neither I, my other son, or husband had those features. Ah, the fun of genetics.
On Dad’s side, we have Seneca heritage. Dad Has the bluest eyes and is very fair skinned (we all are). We’ve had occasion travel through reservations and have stopped to eat, get gas, etc., and have been ushered to the front of the line.
The first time it happened, Dad asked why and was told “We take care of our own.”. Dad asked how they knew we were part Indian and was told, We can just tell.”. I thought that was odd.
