"Ebonics" was just another way for mostly black school districts to get additional funds.
"Recognition" would mean that they could claim an additional language instruction and leech funds from some existing program for "non-English-Speaking students".
It would also hamstring certain members “of the community” and quotas in government (and private) hiring would always provide them employment despite their communication problems.
