In Norway, I believe,it is that the affluence that is making people mentally lazy. One does not have to strive very hard to have a decent living.
My friend, who is Norwegian and a retired teacher, says that students are not being challenged like they use to be.
I would think immigration does play a huge part here.
Not sure if this is kosher here on freepublic, but certain nationalities and ethnicities tend to score extremely low on iq tests. Somalians being a prime example.
Though, I also think the destruction of the education system might play a role, but then the Finnish results surprise me, given their educational system and very limited immigration compared to the rest of the nordics.

Just look at my postings since I joined over a decade ago. That’s a 20 point IQ decline right there. Age, women, rock and roll and beer.
