Jeremy Brett - a wonderful actor who was a major loss. Still remembered.
Yes, like “The Engineer’s Thumb” and “The Five Orange Pips,” or the novels, “A Study in Scarlet” and “The Valley of Fear.”
Brett WAS Holmes.
I’ve always regretted that they didn’t begin the Brett/Holmes series a few years earlier. After about the second or third season, he was in obvious physical decline, coupled with his bi-polar issues.
Greatest Sherlock Holmes ever. Less well known...he had a supporting role in the movie musical My Fair Lady and had one of the iconic sequences in the film...”On The Street Where You Live.” I don’t know if he actually sang the song or if the voice was dubbed. If it was his voice, he was a wonderful vocalist.

So much so that I cannot watch any other Holmes interpretation. Brett was so good that all the others look like hacks by comparison.
Yup. Played it true to Conan-Doyle's image of Holmes. The best.
By far and away, the best portrayal of Sherlock Holmes.
Just like David Suchet WAS Hercules Poirot.
In all the may stories Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote, his most famous detective never went to the bathroom...
Great actor!
Nor did Holmes ever utter the oft-quoted phrase, “Elementary, my dear Watson.” Nor the somewhat lesser-known, “Quick Watson! The needle!”
Apparently, he smoked a massive number of cigarettes each day. Almost sixty according to some sources.
I saw his performance in “Rebecca” and it was quite good.
Thank you for this. Ill look forward to seeing more of those fanvids.
Rathbone was good, but he acted in an era when performers were told what to do and not participate in the decision making process concerning scripts.
To quote another here, Jeremy Brett IS Holmes!
> Just like David Suchet WAS Hercules Poirot. <
Very true! All the others look like they’re doing some sort of parody.
Yes, he played Freddie Einsford-Hill’’. Brett was THE best Sherlock Holmes.
Agree with you and all the others. Love the series. I actually enjoy reading the stories more now, because I can see and hear Jeremy Brett as I read. Cheers.
Amen to that, too!
