I am a tried old man who servied his country, married late in life and will be with my wife until I die.

I have never smoked.

I have never drunk to any great degree.

Iam not particularly concerned about how many people die from alcohol or drug related causes. You are going to die something and it is not my job or the government’s to save people from self-inflicted idiocy.

I have become concerned that cops enforcing drug laws are more of a threat life, liberty, and private property than the druggies are.

I agree with 95% of what you state. The issue I have is with this statement:

“I am not particularly concerned about how many people die from alcohol or drug related causes. You are going to die something and it is not my job or the government’s to save people from self-inflicted idiocy.”

If it were just self-inflicted idiocy, I would have no issue.
However, it is when the idiots you mention hurt main or kill others- that is where I find the issue.

You do not have to look hard to find a family who lost an innocent victim to the idiots idiocy.

All too often the idiot walks away with a headache or no memory of what they caused. fine, as long as the courts allow the innocent victims net of kin to stick a 22 LR into the idiots ear after the wrongful death suit or criminal trial finds them culpable.... Maybe that would make it socially acceptable.

There should be commensurate retribution. Maybe then idiots would be less dangerous to the rest of us.

I would be glad to consider legislation that makes intoxication, drug or alcohol, an aggravating circumstance to homicides, and accidents. I have always thought that is how should be handled.
