A 17-year-old Texas high school student was shot and killed while trying to sell marijuana to two suspects on Christmas Eve, police said.
The incident took place shortly after 9pm on Sunday when officers with the Irving Police Department responded to a shooting report in the 200 block of Red River Trail.
Arriving at the scene, the cops found 17-year-old Brett Adkins, of Plano, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the left chest.

Why is it that the richest, most successful people’s kids so often turn out to be scum?

At 17 I knew that it was very unwise to buy...or sell...illegal drugs.

Spoiled brats, often times.
Relative lived in Irving years back. I kinda wish they had kept that house.

Selling MJ is a rather commonplace event in present day America.
You could just be calling your own kid scum, unbeknownst to yourself!

Particularly selling drugs, and to strangers...not a good career move if you want to make it high school graduation.

Because they’re so busy being rich and successful that they often don’t have time for family? Or that, being so rich and successful, they unwittingly inflict severe cases of affluenza on their families, particularly children who get overindulged and shielded from consequences.

I don't know what circles you run around in, but they don't represent the average American, much less the average conservative.
And if my kid is out selling illegal drugs to others, especially to the kind of scum who would do this, then yes, my kids would be scum.

Another Texas ‘Affluenza teen’. Guess daddy’s money wasn’t good enough for him. I blame the parents for the upbringing that led to this involvement and death. What’s a teenager doing smoking a cigar anyway?

This is a story that allows a lot of broad brushes to be used. Still sad.

“conditional love”
False premise, you can love and care about someone without excusing, accepting or condoning their behavior.

I wouldn’t condemn them as scum... I would condemn myself for being a complete failure as a parent.
