It takes some time and some patience, understanding that you cant always find what you want, but I found several pairs of perfectly good jeans and several tops, some of them brand new with tags still on them for $4 each. I also found a brand new Lands End blouse and a very gently worn cashmere cardigan for $2 bucks each.
I moved in September and was looking for a small dining room set, a table and 4 chairs and came across a listing on the Facebook Market Place. I was a little leery at first and a lot of the sellers are 1st come, 1st to pick up gets it, so I missed out on a few sets I was interested in. But then connected with a guy who was selling a brand new table and chairs, just in the style I wanted for $125. I took a friend with me just to be safe but the guy was OK, really nice.
He had purchased the set brand new some months earlier and paid about $400 for it which was what I was seeing the price was for new in stores and on line at sites like Wayfair, but then a friend of his made him a beautiful table and chairs from recycled barn wood so he just wanted to get the other set out of his garage. He was nice enough to hold it for me for a couple of days until I could bring my nephew back to pick it up. When my nephew and I went to pick it up the guy got really chatty though. Not in a bad way. He invited us in and showed us the custom made table and all the renovations hed been doing on the house.
My friend who lives in Cleveland buys most of her clothes at this resale shop in Rocky River. Lots of money there. She sent me an Eileen Fisher long gray cardigan for my birthday from that resale shop. In absolutely perfect condition.
Glad you got your furniture set. And you were smart to take your nephew!
I have an antique headboard that belonged to Hubby’s aunt. It’s sort of a weird color, a cross between gold and blonde. Had kind of been looking for years for a dresser and nightstands to go with it but didn’t want to spend a lot of money since its in the guest bedroom. Was scrolling through FB Marketplace and bam! there it was. The perfect match. I like that you can check the seller’s history, how long they’ve been on, etc. Doesn’t seem like as big a scam as Craigslist. Anyway, the gal that sold it to me buys old furniture and resells it. She has a garage full. I don’t ‘do’ second handing but FB Marketplace was perfect for this.
