They tried to not do the same thing as Obi-Wan and Anakin, where Obi-Wan refused to believe Anakin had gone bad. The prequels weren’t great, but they pretty much created the more compelling story of how a Jedi Apprentice would turn bad with Anakin Skywalker. However, going so far outside the conventions often produces a chappy narrative.
I see Disney making movies that end up being a disappointment, even a financial failure, in the near future. Enough and they will downsize a bit. Force Awakens was high, but there is already diminishing returns.
And yet they plan to deliver a coda trilogy and a tv series
Oh, I know, but lower box office returns from each successive movie raise questions about how long they keep it going.
At least, them doing that without in-story justification.
I’m hesitant to call women doing that a joke though, mostly because I’d also have to denounce Bruce Lee as a joke since that’s a 90 lb. man beating men 3x his size, and that’s actually confirmed to have happened.
Bruce Lee has a lot of training. And beating up bigger people isnt impossible. Its the exception rather than the rule.
I know, that’s why I won’t mind women doing that as long as it’s firmly established they had a lot of training beforehand as martial artists (or, barring that, they are at least of differing species that look human in appearance that one can expect to be much stronger physically than any human regardless of gender such as robots, alien species, or heck, even mythological creatures like merpeople).
