Almost half of us are okay with the idea of two people getting married to avoid inheritance tax.
In a study carried out by Amarách Research for RTÉs Claire Byrne Live, 48% of people said they would support two people getting married where the sole purpose is to avoid inheritance tax. [ ]
The poll comes after two friends went on RTÉs Liveline on Friday afternoon and said they were marrying for tax reasons.
The show heard from 85-year-old Matt, who told Joe Duffy that Michael OSullivan was his best friend and that he planned to leave him his house when he died. Both of them said they werent gay, but that their planned marriage is for financial reasons. He said the pair were not sexual partners, but that they are close friends.

What of elderly siblings who never married and live together?
Why must one lose the house because the other passed on?
There should be no inheritance/estate/death taxes at all to begin with - but I suspect I’m preaching to the choir on FR.
:D
Shouldn’t have to get married. He paid taxes when he made the money. He should be able to give it to whomever he wants.
Many old folks just live together rather than taking the cut in Social Security benefits by getting married.
While the federal estate exemption is over $5million and being doubled, thus it doesnt apply to many, Pennsylvania’s inheritance tax for transfer to an unmarried partner is 15% of everything.
yup. double taxation.
Love has nothing to do with a state marriage license. It is nothing more than a legal contract to combine two entities into one in the eye of the law (for tax purposes, child raising, property etc)
‘...He was born in a mixed marriage, his father is a man and the mother is a woman, a very uncommon thing in the todays Europe’.

Correct. Marriage and love are two entirely different things. Marriage is a special kind of legal contract with significant legal and personal finance implications, some good, some bad, all depending on a person’s circumstances. Anyone who has been through a divorce knows this very well.
The perverts made “marriage” about benefits, so that’s what we’ll get - a tax avoidance scheme.
No, marriage is not merely a contract. Contracts are only binding on the people who willfully, legally enter into them. Why, then, do employers HAVE to offer spousal benefits with their employee policy? The employer wasn’t a party to the marriage “contract.”
This reveals that marriage transcends the definition of a contract. It’s much more, with an ontology - one that same-sex couples don’t fulfill.

No; that is what marriage becomes when government comes in and perverts it.
It was God who made marriage at the beginning. And it was not between “Adam and Steve” even if for tax purposes (government again).
Abolition of all rights of inheritance. That would be why. Especially with the heavy EU influence that is distorting the country these days.
Third plank of communism
If you pay one dime in inheritance tax you did something wrong. If you are creative the government cannot get your money.
Hell, start paying your kid’s car payments, pay your grandkids tuition, take them on vacations, hand them cash, have them sue you in civil court for damages and settle, give them the gift of junk junk silver coins, hand them cash for walking around money, etc.
