True. But our earthly communications between ourselves is not. I don’t know if Carl Sagan’s novel _Contact_ is considered passé now, but the premise is that aliens first observed us through broadcast communications.
A real tour-de-force about alien contact is Greg Costikyan’s _First Contract._
