Curious about you photo I found this:
Wu’s thesis was that the Cultural Revolution was at first caused by Mao’s direction. He was enamored with the idea of a ‘permanent revolution’ but still clung to the idea of the vanguard state and retaining power. As the movement continued, however, the party soon lost control and public order collapsed.
