A lawyer for Donald Trump Jr. , President Donald Trumps eldest son, on Tuesday asked the House Intelligence Committee to open a formal inquiry into what he said were leaks by committee members or staff following the younger Mr. Trumps interview with the panel earlier this month.
The lawyer, Alan Futerfas, in a letter sent to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Mike Conaway (R., Texas), asked the panel to investigate in particular whether any members or staff members of this committee intentionally disseminated inaccurate information to the media, according to a copy of the letter viewed by The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Futerfas said such an investigation was necessary to maintain the credibility of the investigation.
In his letter, Mr. Futerfas cited in particular a set of reports by CNN about Mr. Trump Jr.s statements during his Dec. 6 interview with the committee, which lasted more than seven hours. The reports, some of which were published while Mr. Trump Jr. was still sitting before the committee, discussed Mr. Trump Jr.s statements about his conversations with other campaign officials and with his father regarding a June 2016 meeting the younger Mr. Trump arranged with a Kremlin-linked lawyer at Trump Tower.
Mr. Futerfas in his letter also singled out Democrats on the committeeincluding Reps. Adam Schiff, the panels top Democrat, Jackie Speier and Eric Swalwell, all of Californiafor conducting television interviews in which they discussed details of the interview, including Mr. Trump Jr.s refusal to answer certain questions about his discussions with his father.
