One movie from the ‘50s (1957) that everyone should watch is ‘The D.I.’, with Jack Webb. One of two movies we watched on Parris Island in 1989. The other was ‘Sands of Iwo Jima’ with John Wayne.

I can tell you the name of the girl I took to see “The D. I.” and the name of the restaurant that we had dinner, as well as the issue of the recruit’s reaction to Parris Island’s sand fleas. It was a beautiful summer day/evening, one to remember and cherish. Actually, thinking back on it, it’s too bad I didn’t pursue a deeper relationship with Phyllis. Her father recommended that I enter Syracuse University (which I did), and she also matriculated there while I was still a student. Doggone!

Don't forget Sweet Smell of Success. It had the BEST quotes of any flick of the 50s (see my tagline).
