Spoken like a city dweller who never harvested wheat a day in his life.
They were formally classified as rodents until 1912. To a lot of farmers, they still are.
I forgive you your youth-centric perspective.

Spoken like a scientist that worked to developed drugs to keep bitter old cusses alive.
and I'll forgive your presumptive leap - I learned to hunt before I learned to ride a bike, we valued meat and corn more than wheat

Lagomorph not rodent I don't think you're spelling it right.

About 100 years ago, somebody brought some rabbits with him when he journeyed to Australia. Then they got loose. Rabbits had never been to the island land and had no natural predators there. Result: rabbits are now considered a major nuisance in Australia and some Aussies have gone so far as to import coyotes to hunt the rabbits.
But then there are no natural predators in Australia for coyotes...

I'm well aware of that, same sort of thing happened here around 500 years ago..(j/k)
As invasive species go, rabbits in Australia must the most destructive ever. The engineered & introduced pathogens have reduced the population (and now affect non target population) but their numbers are staggering.

I agree. While I like eating meat and have even eaten rabbit, I wouldnt want to see a rabbit or any animal burn to death in a wild fire or get run over on a highway.
I along with another driver once pulled over to rescue a stray dog that had somehow managed to make his way onto a busy highway overpass. Poor thing was scared to death and I did fear getting bit but he seemed to understand we were trying to help him.

Maybe they should have gone a little easier on the dingos and then they wouldn’t be inviting further disaster with imported song dogs.

I saw this on TV earlier today.
I did not see what he was going after at first, and the look of panic and concern was heartwarming and heartbreaking all at once.

some Aussies have gone so far as to import coyotes to hunt the rabbits.
But then there are no natural predators in Australia for coyotes... LOL!
I wonder what are coyotes' natural enemies...
Everybody familiar with the Hawaiian snakes-mongooses-birds conundrum?
I have spent most of my life trying (among other things) to understand the human inability to grasp the notion of "unintended consequences..."
Like the inter-relationship between "tree and bug and bunny" worship, ghastly forest fires, and unreachable home ownership...

From time to time, I see some threads that leave me literally speechless.
But too rarely in a good way.
Too often, human soulless animals get the press.
