I have an old friend who is president of Mensa for a fairly large area. He loves chess. He has tried to get me to take the Mensa test but I just don’t care anything about it.
I will say that when we were both young I scored about the same thing he did on achievement tests in school and we both scored in the top percentile.
Anyway I have tried him in chess a few times and he absolutely kills me without really trying. On the other hand, I can beat him in checkers.
Yeah, I know the feeling. I taught a few friends chess years ago, and after a half dozen games or so, they would start beating me eight out of 10 games. My army buddy beat me effortlessly 998 out of a thousand games.
And I only beat my father twice, until his brain started to fail.
And I know for sure that I’m much smarter overall than any of them.
I don’t know if I could beat them at checkers, ...
but I’m pretty sure I could beat them with a stick. ;-)
I'm the same way! No one will play chess with me except my wife after I've had a few cocktails. She's pretty good.
But I absolutely suck at checkers. Just can't figure it.
