A Cuban state media outlet confirmed last week that the nations capital, Havana, is suffering significant shortages of toilet paper. While the absence of common goods in the communist nation is not uncommon, such acknowledgment of a problem is rare. The state newspaper Juventud Rebelde (Rebellious Youth) reported on Wednesday that toilet paper had disappeared from stores in Havana, announcing that the governments state-run producer of toilet paper had acquired new machinery to generate toilet paper.
They are not the super-machines, but they have an elevated technology level, toilet paper engineer Manolo González García told the newspaper. One advantage of the new machines, he explains, is that they can simultaneously churn out two types of toilet paper rolls: a high-quality one for tourists, and an ecological one to sell to Cuban citizens.

Heck, what about cigars!
No, I meant how much toilet paper, how many bicycles, how many toilet seats to get her out of Cuba?
So with Cuba like Venezuela: toilet paper is the first victim of socialism?
Pretty danged sh1tty....
A couple of bathroom items about Cuba.
If you drink the water anywhere outside of the tourist hotels, you will need A LOT of toilet paper.
You might find tp but 90%+ of the bathrooms won't have toilet seats.
We were at a church that had very nice and clean bathrooms. No toilet paper but each one had a clip with the official state communist newspaper cut into squares. One of the Cubans asked if I had noticed the tp. He said that Cubans say that it is the only use the paper is worthy of.
Where’s Mr. Whipple when you need him?
They can pretend to be Muzzies and use their hand.
You think Raul Castro has no toilet paper?
I don’t know but when her mother left after a visit, he didn’t have any hats or socks.
Theyve always had a tp shortage in Cuba. Every hotel, restaurant, bar you go in has a woman or man sitting right inside the door at a card table. Theyll sell you 5 squares for $1. Theres no tp in any of the stalls. Theres a huge, newer, really nice hotel there. Cant remember the name but they were the only place that had American style stalls with tp in them.
Corn cobs.
I haven’t traveled to many places (certainly nowhere outside the Anglosphere), but I wouldn’t even consider a place without TP. I guess this news bit means even the tourists can’t get any now (even the $1 for 5 squares)...
I mean a newspaper like that makes perfect TP.
They can just use their bidets, then.
“As did the Romans. The term Mal Dicticta referred to the left hand, the one used to wipe ones butt.”
There are things about the anus and feces that I don’t understand.
For instance the psychology definition of “anal” is “of or relating to the second stage of psychosexual development, during which gratification is derived from the retention or expulsion of feces.”
I never would have thought of that. Freud did.
And then there are people who get gratification from an anus and, I presume, the smell of feces.
I’m obviously naïve.
Bummer
