Good grief - not a good thing to hear. Hopefully the young man is OK and there's no lasting damage.

Dan Quinn of the Falcons also teaches rugby techniques.

Yep. That’s all honest work. Playing a game isn’t. It’s easy to respect the mentally challenged man who makes his living recycling cans he finds along the road. I have no respect for any man who wastes the assets the Good Lord gave him, playing a game for the NFL.

The latest one was the end zone head to head, on Antonio Brown.

No pads. Thanks for helping make my point. Football players rely on pads and hart hitting too much. And how many times have we seen runners evade tackle after tackle because defenders are simply launching themselves at the runners instead of grabbing them and bringing them down?

I played Rugby for years and can contest the “thinking man’s” myth. Yes, it is a “better” game, in my view, but I am a biased, brain-damaged old hooker.

It’s all CIRCUS, brothers. It’s all pleasure and pain and voyeurism and foolishness. “Teams” from nowhere, symbols, brands, cash and beer.

NFL will die out due to some $100 mill+ verdicts with punitive damages. A dozen of those will do it in.

The NFL will die because a bunch of Marxist flagburning cop-killing-loving pieces of $hit run the league, and tolerate a bunch of thugs acting like 3 year olds.

As long as he can still kneel, I guess all is OK.

Dan Quinn was recently a coach here in Seattle - where they of course teach similar techniques. (They have teaching videos of it on their website). I think they also go around to the various grade-school leagues and high schools and teach it.

The way those guys hit each other on every play, it is amazing that there aren’t more injuries. Last summer I fell about 7’ and landed straight on my head - luckily on to the grass. And luckily it was straight as well (and lucky that I don’t weigh 300 pounds!). Sore - but nothing damaged.

Neck isn’t the problem, but could have compressed/shattered a lower vertebrae, clearly nothing signal wise was reaching his legs. Hopefully it is something temporary...

It was crazy definitely the most stoppages of play for an injured player I can recall in a long long time... lots of spearing and head hunting going on

(b) A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as stuffing a passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided for in (a) above. When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down and land on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player’s arms.

a few minutes ago on Twitter:

“Some good news coming out from Steelers. Two players called Shazier’s injury a spinal chord concussion, comparable to Tommy Maddox injury in 2002; Maddox missed 1 game. Encouraging news, another said.”

Looks like Shazier’s condition is improving according to reports, may be just a spinal cord concussion.

Just a follow up on this thread since there was no other MNF thread going...

The stadium had 10,000 empty seats per Cincinnati Enquirer (Can’t post article due to copyright issues or even excerpt it.).

For this to happen in a rivalry game, on Monday night, with 20,000 Steelers fans more than happy to make the drive any given year, with the Bengals fighting for a wild card spot, 60+ degree weather in Ohio in December...

They still can’t fill the place.

The NFL be in heeeeeeeap big trouble.

I was shocked to look at league wide attendance this year and even in Pittsburgh they’re only at 94% of capacity in what could be a 13+ win season.

I hate to see a guy maybe lose his livelihood and health and hope that is not the case.
