A grand jury indicted Slager in 2015, but a judge ultimately declared a mistrial in December 2016 after a jury remained deadlocked. The panel was made up of 11 white jurors and one black juror.
While that case was ongoing, federal authorities pursued a parallel investigation against Slager on civil rights charges. Solicitor Scarlett Wilson had planned to bring a second case against Slager later this year, but those charges were dropped as part of his federal plea deal.

During the sentencing hearing in downtown Charleston, the judge will determine if the shooting is voluntary manslaughter or murder. Prosecutors have pushed for the latter as Slager would then be eligible to a life sentence in prison.
Slagers attorneys have lambasted the potential murder designation, calling it the prosecution's way to accomplish their unreasonable goal to have Slager spend the remainder of his life in prison. They have also asked for a reduction in his sentence since the nature of the case comes with a high susceptibility of prison abuse, they said.
A probation officer recommended a prison term between 10 and nearly 13 years, the Post and Courier reported.

Say what you want about Slager, but he’s the guy who really takes collecting back child support seriously.
Sounds like he meant to use his taser and grabbed the pistol by mistake and it accidentally discharged 8 times before he could get it under control. Not guilty.
.....hard to imagine what was going through Slager’s mind at the few moments he was firing his weapon at the perp 8 times.
Was he mad at the perp or what?
Doesn’t matter, from all available evidence, and barring something new popping up, look’s like I’m gonna come down on manslaughter and out in 10 in a minimum security federal pen.
There’s a video of it on the net shot by a witness. He did use his Taser. Guy got back up and ran, cop transitioned to firearm and shot him in the back as he was fleeing. I haven’t seen it in a while, but that’s what I remember.
Oh, I re-read your post, sorry. Sick as a dog right now.
;) Hope you feel better.
lol....
there was also a 5 minute fight on the ground that wasnt filmed......very simple...dont fight a cop. Common sense 101.
Thank you.
Show me the timeline for that 5 minute long fight. I’d like to see it.
But the shooting didn't take place *during* the fight.
next time your stopped by a cop...take off running, fight him and try and take his tazer...see what happens.
[shoot a guy in the back] + [another guy gets video of it] == [bring your toothbrush to court]
First,I've only been stopped twice in my life...didn't run, didn't fight.
Second, unless there was clear evidence that his escape posed a serious threat to others shooting him in the back was over the line.
and the cop knew this how??......what if he was wanted for murder and did something if hes allowed to just run away??...sorry, police have the right to escalate any confrontation ..you wanna up the ante, they are licensed to take your life, if thats the path you choose to take...thats why the jury hung. Just the way it is
