Just an open vanity to discuss the drawings
Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay . . . how do they possibly fail to advance!!!
Germany given a tough draw.
Group E: Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia.
Green light for Brazil.
Group D: Argentina, Iceland, Croatia, Nigeria
The toughest group of all.
Group C: France, Australia, Peru, Denmark.
France should sail thru easily.
No USA, no Netherlands, no Ireland, no Italy...
And not much interest. A Final Four prediction: Germany, Brazil, Argentina, and.... England.
D = Group of Death. Many boring groups.
Where is England? I want to know when the suicide hotline needs to be manned.
Call me an old fashioned patriot, but whatever I might think of soccer, I want the U.S.A. to *WIN*.
At least once, then we can fugetaboutit.
Personally, I think it’s an interesting sport that suffers more from bad camera work and lack of commercial breaks than anything else. But I want to see us kick some international heiny ;-)
England in Group G with Belgium, Tunisia & Panama
From the BBC:
England in Group G with Belgium, Tunisia & Panama England's first game against Tunisia in Volgograd
Group A: Russia, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, Egypt. Group B: Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Iran
Russia v Saudi Arabia is first game of World Cup
Group C: France, Australia, Peru, Denmark. Group D: Argentina, Iceland, Croatia, Nigeria
Group E: Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia. Group F: Germany, Mexico, Sweden, South Korea
Group H: Poland, Senegal, Colombia, Japan
Russia's group might look easy; I have found though, that despite people talking about "easy" group, if one runs basic "strength of group" tests, they are often comparable.
Advancing predictions, group A. Uruguay, Russia.
Group B. Portugal Spain.
Group C. France, Denmark
Group D. Argentina, Croatia
Group E. Brazil, Costa Rica
Group F. Germany, Mexico (Sweden is very good)
Group G. England, Belgium.
Group H. Poland, Colombia
I’m happy with England’s group. England v Belgium will almost be like a derby match. The players will know each other so well. Surely even England can’t manage to fail to qualify behind one of Panama or Tunisia? (I’m ignoring the Icelandic nightmare in the Euros).
I love the World Cup. I usually end up dispirited, but we can all dream at the start of it.
Bring on Russia.
Yeah, I really want to see the USA win too... except that I’m pretty sure that’s not gonna happen this time around.
I love dark horses but world soccer seems that the more things change, the more they stay the same. We just haven’t seen teams from other continents other than Europe and South America really make an impact on the world scene... at least, with any kind of regularity. It seems safe to time after time, pick the time-tested winners. Someone like Belgium may have the talent but just don’t have the experience of winning on the big stage. It could change.
Ha, ha. England has a chance to make it through, but we’re talking about England here so there’s always a distinct possibility of some catastrophic misfire.
Spain defeated Italy 3-0 and won the group they were both in. Spain, if there are no internal problems and they have good coaching, could be a power to be reckoned with.
I like Republic of Ireland, sadly, there appearances in recent tournaments have been lackluster.
Yes, England are the Titanic of the major footballing powers. We always seem to find the iceberg.
I think I’m going to miss Italy, Netherlands and the United States. Serious inquests must be going on in those countries as to why they failed to qualify.
There are no groups of death. the whole draw looks more like a seeding than a random draw.
Would love to see the lads win it, though.
I agree, the groups look funny. Maybe because some of the more renown teams are out and teams like Panama are there.
Arab media seemed to say a lot of Arab teams are there versus having Cameroon, Ivory Coast from Africa. I guess that is true.
I don’t expect Egypt to do any better than what they did last time, group stage, same for Saudi Arabia but who knows?
Belgium will win that group with players like Hazard, DeBruyne and Lukaku.
Anybody but Mexico, and I think they got a pretty tough draw.
You mean Iceland.....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
