Jim Nabors, TV's the lovably naive Gomer Pyle, dies at 87

Jim Nabors, the singer and actor who became a TV icon in the 1960s playing the lovably naïve Gomer Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show” and the spinoff series “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.,” has died. He was 87.

Nabors, who underwent a liver transplant after contracting hepatitis B in 1994, died Thursday at his home in Hawaii, his website announced.

“Everybody knows he was a wonderful man. And that’s all we can say about him,” said Stan Cadwallader, who had been Nabors’ partner for 38 years before the couple married in 2013. “He’s going to be dearly missed.”

A tall and lanky Alabama native, Nabors was singing at a small nightclub in Santa Monica called the Horn in 1962 when Griffith caught his act, in which he’d sing in a booming baritone and then talk in a higher-pitched Southern hayseed accent.

We all have our sins. It isn’t my place to decide if his were worse than mine- that’s judging him and way above my pay grade, so to speak. Other than the gay thing, I’ve never heard criticism number one about Neighbors, in fact- quite the contrary. I know a gay dude. What goes on between him and God is between them. He has heard The Word. He is a complete gentleman and keeps his hands and his eyes to himself and doesn’t push the gay thing at anybody. He knows I am a Conservative and a Christian. We get along fine.

The left will never understand and would resort to slapping the ‘homophobe’ label on me, but of course it isn’t that or anything like it. I don’t ‘fear’ them. I find it viscerally repulsive. The Word speaks strongly against it. But I can’t really criticize them for being sinners now, can I?

I remember his cameo on The Lucy Show, where he played Lou C. Carmichael in the episode where Lucy Carmicheal was drafted in his place by mistake. One of the best ever.

RIP.

Back then they kept it in the closet. No one need know who they did what with. Had they kept it that way it would have been better.

Yes, it is when they decided to publicly parade it and shove it down our throats (so to speak) that I soured on someone that I had previously admired as an icon.

You expressed my thoughts exactly. All must make their choices and all will reap what they sow unless they confess and repent of their sins. Since we have all sinned, we are unfit to judge the soul of any person. Only God can. But we can judge one another by our fruits. Jim Nabors did bear some good fruits and left this world a better place despite the demons he faced. As far as I know he never forced his homosexual beliefs on anyone.

I liked Jim Nabors, the actor, but I cannot condone his private life of homosexuality. I believe we have all sinned in the eyes of God. So, Jim Nabors was a not perfect men. Only one man, Jesus Christ, lived a perfect life while he was among us. And HE has promised to wash away our sins if we let him. So from one sinner to another, RIP Jim Nabors.

These are my opinions and beliefs only, your mileage may vary.
